Are You Having Physical Pain?

Have you exhausted conventional and alternatives options yet no long-term results? Here is maybe why..

According to Louise Hays, the pioneer of Neuro-psycho-immunology and many other Mind-body therapists, we create every so-called illness in our body. Louise Hay wrote that “continuous modes of thinking and speaking produce body behaviors and postures. Mental patterns are reflected in our physical body; just take a look people’s faces or body postures, a person who has a scowling face did not produce it by having joyous, loving thoughts”. Every cell within your body responds to every single thoughts your think or words you speak. The most common causes of serious illness are Fear and Anger, and anger as: Resentment, Revenge, Grudges, Unforgiveness, Frustration, Irritation, Impatience, Criticism, Jealousy and Guilt. Fear as anxiety, worry, doubt, insecurity and tension. These are creating more stress in our lives than any other thoughts or emotions. When you learn Forgiveness, it will add years to a much higher quality of life.

Recently, I went to listen to Deepak Chopra speak about the latest studies on the constant communication between the physical body and the world we live in. Deepak refers to the world as the “Quantum World” and the body as many “Processes” and it is in constant change and evolution within the Quantum World. Basically, you are not the person you were 5, 10, 15 years ago physically & biologically or even from the time you woke up this morning to the person reading this blog now!

These processes are always working towards homeostasis/harmony and each cell is continuously aware of the others and of the larger picture. Our body receives billions of “impulses” from our sense receptors, and these are interpreted by the brain as a 3D “perception of reality”, which in turn creates thoughts, emotions, and feelings….visible in the brain as neuro-peptides. Through the many processes one gets completely new organs and body! Most importantly, Deepak added that our Cellular Consciousness is the complete memory of all our experiences we have stored from the day of conception to now. WOW! What does this mean?

Just imagine this constant communication between the emotional and mental states and overall health when stress, anxiety, sadness, grief, guilt, irritability, resentment, revenge, bitterness and anger arise from repeating emotional trauma! After years these negative emotions have affected your sense of self such as:
Hopeless. You feel as if there is no hope because you do believe it is possible to achieve anything.
Helpless. You believe that something is possible but you are not personally capable of achieving it.
Unworthy. You do not believe that you deserve to attain success whatsoever.

Your negative feelings “Anger” triggers the body’s “fight-or-flight” response, creating hyper-arousal in the body in order to cope with a perceived crisis. Stress is a body’s response; the raising blood pressure, speeding heart rate, and stress depress the body’s immune system in order to focus on the threat of the moment. Over time, stress responses cause negative health effects. The physical body manifests emotional blockages leading to lower the functioning of organs, pains and muscle tension, exhaustion and other physical ailments. How? Every time you mentally revisit or tell someone what happened over and over again you reinforce the stress response in the body.
Are you one who goes ritually for years to a psychotherapist but can’t get the story out of your mind, or a chiropractor and no matter how many times you were adjusted for a vertebral subluxation the pain or tension keeps coming back? Researchers are showing a link between prolonged anger or resentment and a host of heightened medical risks.

Further, and as Eckhart Tolle writes “anger or resentment strengthen the EGO enormously by increasing the sense of separateness, emphasizing the otherness of others” and creating an impregnable fortress like mental position of “I am right – you are wrong”, on top of creating “tension or inflammations”. Sadly to say, the Ego-mind become so addicted to pain&suffering that it will attract situations/events/people that will recreate suffering. Again, because of the ways in which resentment and unforgiveness interact with the brain, the body’s reactions can lead to chronic and sometimes serious physical ailments.

Additionally, many who experience prolonged resentment seek to self medicate through alcohol, drugs, tobacco or unhealthy eating patterns which can lead to secondary health problems. Other negative health effects of anger for those harboring grudges can include headaches, digestive issues, arthritis, gout, hypo/hyperthyroidism, tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), fibromyalgia, MS, high cholesterol, hypertension (high blood pressure), heart failure, stroke and cancer. Here is the most compelling research to read on The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study - http://xnet.kp.org/permanentejournal/winter02/goldtolead.html by Dr. Vincent J. Felitti MD.

The most significant result shared by Deepak is how people increase their chances to manifest serious illnesses by 50% when they are not feeling loved, appreciated or were ignored, either by peers, at work or by their own family. Yet, when people surrounded themselves or connect even virtually with happy and positive peers, doing happy activities, they increase their life expectancy by 50%. As Louise Hay said it so wonderfully “The mind is just a tool and you are more than your mind- you only have control over your own thoughts” so better change them and think happy ones!

Therefore, my question to you is: what 50% are you choosing to go for? When you learn FORGIVENESS, it will add years to a much higher quality of life, and you don’t have to do it alone – Seek professional help from a practitioner that you can trust and with who you have a good rapport, who have “walk the talk” and who have expertise in non-conventional psychotherapy, like Mind-Body medicines, such as NLP, Hypnotherapy, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and Reiki.

“Forgiveness in the heart comes about when the walls of separation in the ego-mind fall. Forgiveness is born of increased awareness. The more you can see, the easier it is to forgive.” Deepak Chopra.

How People Act Out..Early Emotional Wounds Later in Life.

Cellular Consciousness is the complete memory of all our experiences that we each carry in our bodies from the day of our conception to now. How people manifest their emotional traumas and shocks depends on their style(s) of recapitulation. Recapitulate means “to repeat in concise form.”. There are many kinds of recapitulations; all are ways of creating situations that allow a person to continue to deal with unresolved feelings, situations, energy, etc. The first six were formulated by William Emerson, Ph.D. There are many types of recapitulation, and each type has several variants; this is just a quick overview of a few of the most common styles.

Direct - Direct recapitulation is directly recreating the dynamics of an earlier shock or trauma. A woman with a strong and overbearing father, who chooses a strong and overbearing husband, is directly recapitulating that experience. She’s chosen to gain mastery over her painful early experiences by repeating and dealing with the same patterns over and over again.

Avoidant – An avoidant recapitulator creates events that are directly opposite the dynamics of the earlier experience. So, a boy whose parents were obsessive about safety and cleanliness might purposely become involved in activities which allowed him to take risks and get dirty (rock climbing or rugby would combine both elements) – which would allow him to totally avoid the dynamics of his childhood. Unfortunately, avoidant recapitulators tend to transform a lot of their unresolved traumas into physical problems.

Identified – In identified recapitulation, the person creates a situation where he/she can take on the role of the traumatizing person. So, a child who grew up with parents who were critical and demanding might become critical and demanding of others.

Generative - Generative recapitulation involves taking an “educational” or “social activist” approach – to help others avoid the trauma you know so well. So, the person whose parents didn’t observe appropriate boundaries might teach assertiveness classes for teenage girls or women, or create parenting class with special emphasis on respecting boundaries.

Creative – A person who uses creative repatterning recapitulation will develop ways to “master” the hurtful forces of childhood. For example, a boy whose dad would play with him very roughly and throw him through the air might become a stuntman or pilot – developing the traumatizing experience into a sophisticated skill over which he had control, and which could bring great satisfaction (either through money, or pleasurable experiences, or both).

Confrontive – Confrontive recapitulators seek out and challenge circumstances, people, events that are identical or similar to those of their childhood; this is similar to identified but without “victimizing” people. A person who was neglected as a child might become hypervigilant to notice and overly aggressive about confronting parents who are in any way neglectful of their children.

Adoptive or Preemptive. People who use this style of recapitulation will “beat the other person to it” by voluntarily adopting the behavior that was forced on them. So people whose births were induced and who felt forced to be early, will always be early. This prevents outside circumstances from every “inducing” them again. Or people whose parents were abusive, forcing them to be compliant and meek, will adopt a meek and compliant manner all the time, to “head off” the need of others to be abusive towards them. People who were deprived will need even less, not letting other deprive them because they “don’t need it anyway.”

Different people use different styles of recapitulation and most of us use a combination of styles. It is also possible to use two or more styles of recapitulation for one trauma or shock. For instance, it is possible that the woman with the overbearing father might avoidantly recapitulate in her marriage by choosing a passive husband, use identification recapitulation with co-workers, and take a generative approach by supporting non-profit agencies who rescue children from abusive homes.

Keep in mind that if people are recapitulating their emotional wounds, regardless of how “productive” they might be, they are still trapped by the energy of those early wounding experiences. Appropriate treatment brings relief from chronic patterns and allows greater flexibility in all areas of life.

The bottom line here is that you don’t have to keep these emotional traumas and recapitulate all your life – I strongly recommend you seek out the help of a well trained emotional release professional! And that is me :D

How Do We Heal Past Emotional Experiences?

In my field of expertise, I have learned a great deal about human nature and its deep rooted addiction to suffering – most of us suffer because of the beliefs we acquired in early age from parents, siblings and communities – We all have heard comments that we took literally and personally as perception or definition of who we are – I call these “programs” or “limiting beliefs” – This past weekend I attended a workshop based on Don Miguel Ruiz’s book “The Four Agreements” – I love to refresh my skills and am amazed at how much I still learn – In his book, Ruiz used the word “Domestication” and write that our own view of the whole reality is based on what we believe it to be, and it is just a concept! Having this knowledge does not mean it is the Truth; Knowledge is only what we know!

Many of my clients have physical and mental problems that are emotionally based which are directly connected to faulty beliefs about themselves – e.g: “my mother had this when she….my father used to say this all the time about me….it simply runs in the family.…my doctors told me it is in my genes….I was told that I can’t do this …”- Are you aware of the entire distorted images and negative inner dialogues you have about yourself? Look at an area of your life your are dissatisfied with – this is a limiting belief. The good news is – Anything can be changed!

This week, as I often do I decided to suggest some reading to one of my clients who I believed could benefit from reinforcement – I mentioned “The New Earth” and the “Four agreements” – to my surprise she told me she had in fact read all of Don Miguel Ruiz books – She said she understood them intellectually but could not “do the emotional work” alone on a deeper level! She said just reading the book was not a very emotional experience, and thinking about her emotional issues wasn’t going to resolve them. She simply confirmed to me how important my work is, and that’s why doing the work as one on one, or in a group – workshop, with a trained practitioner is so important. I suggest you think of this as an ongoing process, just like the other parts of your health program.

There’s plenty of evidence, both from our clinical experience and from medical research, that emotional healing creates positive physical changes in the body. In a perfect world we would all be able to afford an alternative-integrative therapy, yet with the right therapist! I do ask people to view that cost as an investment in their health. There are group therapy options that are affordable and can be helpful. Hypnotherapy, Time line Therapy (NLP) and Meridian Therapy such as MTT, EFT, or TAT are very helpful for many people. Meditation, yoga exercise and other stress-relieving techniques that are helpful as part of your overall health plan, but unfortunately they are not a substitute for “your work.”

Deal with the past and move on… after Awareness come Forgiveness

It may take courage and faith to examine your own life, to face the past with kindness and gentleness for the person you have been and the people who have caused you pain, and to support the person you feel yourself becoming. Healing your past emotional experience helps create a joyful, healthy present moment and opens the doors to the life you want for yourself. Give yourself this Gift – just choose to believe you deserve it!

Emotional Eating – Why all diets fall short!

Many people have gone through numerous trendy diets and exercise regularly, yet still have pounds to release! What is not working then? There are many reasons why diets and physical exercise alone don’t work. First plain and simple “Diets to lose weight” don’t work period!

Second is the age factor – OK I know no one wants to hear that they are getting older, it is not about the number of years, more about the aging process itself and how it affects the hormones responsible to maintaining the homeostasis or health of your body. The homeostasis can be compromised by many external factors such as the environment, the water we drink, the air we breathe, the eating habits and most importantly the level of stress in your life.

Let’s identify some factors:

Hormonal imbalance: such as Adrenal Exhaustion due to STRESS, Thyroid, SAD (Seasonal affective disorder) is a type of depression that occurs at the same time every year.

Food sensitivities : You have a physiologic sensitivity to sugar or gluten (or both!) or other foods that is driving you to want those foods. We crave the very foods we are sensitive to because we’ve grown used the abnormal biochemical state those foods produce.

Neurotransmitter imbalance: Again Stress, Depression, and Chronic Fatigue – If we look first at biochemistry, it helps to understand the role of serotonin, one of the neurotransmitters most relevant to weight gain and loss. Serotonin is responsible for regulating mood, sleep, and body temperature, among other functions. What makes the cravings even more troublesome is that people with a serotonin deficiency often have a heightened pleasure response to carbohydrates.

Stress Old and New: It won’t surprise you to know that stress, and how you react to it, can be tangled up in your eating patterns. Stress activates your fight-or-flight response with the release of adrenaline and cortisol. This process can alter your digestion and your relationship with food. If you stay stressed for long periods, your body’s daily cortisol cycle will spiral out of whack, upsetting the normal internal conversation. Chronic stress allows these effects to continue indefinitely and you risk Adrenal Exhaustion, Hyper/hypothyroidism, Depression, Candida, SAD (Seasonal affective disorder) and other health issues like Insulin Resistance, Diabetes and Hypoglycemia.

While we all have stress in our lives, each of us will respond to it differently and that includes how, when, and what we choose to eat. If a person believes that showing his/her feelings and emotions is a sign of weakness, he/she might use food to hide that fear. Some people become obsessive-compulsive, and use strict food management to gain a sense of control over a stressful situation, especially one which is ongoing. Others retreat from stress, taking comfort in their favorite foods.

THINK ABOUT THAT! When we revisit in our mind old stressful events we set the cascade of chemicals reactions in motion once again! I call this “Living in the Past” or Negative “self-talk” – “Why did I do this?” “Why did he said/do that to me? “I can’t believe he/she….to ME!” worries do the same, you are in the future thinking of what worst can happened to you!

Stress is not a disease or a symptom- it is a learned behavior established early in childhood from our family programs. To change our response to stress is to let go of our old re-action to OLD and PAINFUL triggers. In NLP it is called an Imprint – in psychology an Engram – When you are able to accept all circumstances in your life as a RESPONSIBLE individual fully knowing that you have created then with your thoughts, you let go of VICTIMIZATION – you accept WHAT IT IS and start living in the NOW!

Emotional eating – healing starts with awareness! Whether we are using well-loved foods to calm ourselves, or depriving ourselves of them as punishment, we are preoccupying ourselves with food to prevent unwanted feelings, including — but not limited to — the big ones: anger, fear, despair, and shame…Emotional eating has its roots in actual emotions. No matter why you have these cravings or binging you need professional help!

Education as Prevention is The Solution to people’s Health!

Why Education as Prevention is The Solution to people’s Health!

I have the privilege to work with few Naturopathic Doctors, chiropractors and others health practitioners – we often mastermind about many topics that would benefits our clients – the exciting part is that we all see solutions to this health care crisis – Because we care, we often write article about this topic or share it during our lectures. Bottom line, Education is an important part of the solution for both side of equation, doctors and patients. Does anyone listen to us?

Education gives CHOICES to individuals, about healthy life-style, exercise, appropriate nutrition; clean environment etc… that support the preventive care so missing. Yet little is done to educate people to be responsible not victim of their health, and how their choices have affected their health and the world at large. This is one of my preferred piece in educating people, teaching them to become Responsible by shifting their mindsets and beliefs systems about Health!

When it comes to understand and treat diseases, doctors are trained to only see what is occurring from the biochemical reaction in the physical. The concept of a “Whole organic human life” with a mind-body-beliefs-environment is often ignored or dismissed because too often misunderstood. Chinese medicine is the closer to grasp that concept, and yet it is often reduced to acupuncture and herbs in the western medical sphere. The idea of “medical specialization” or compartmented approach to healing people by the medical field is not working anymore, let face it! Patients are not seeing as human but as their illness. It will be interesting to re-introduce the idea of a human being as a “whole unique system in relation with the world”.

As Hippocrates once wrote, “The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well.” This is the essence of mind-body medicine. These techniques strive to create awareness of the connection between our conscious and unconscious mind, as well as our emotions, outlook and physical state. They are often used in combination with body-based therapies and address a much-overlooked aspect of healing and prevention.

Mind/body medicine integrates modern scientific medicine, psychology, nutrition, exercise physiology and belief to enhance the natural healing capacities of body and mind. Psycho-immunology is the field of research that studies how thoughts, emotions and beliefs affect human health. What we think and believe the most of create feelings, positive and/or negative, which in turn manifest into actions/behaviors, either reinforcing or not these same beliefs. Adding the food’s choices and we have the recipe for a healthy or a sick physical body. Doctors have lots of examples of placebo and nocebo stories to share – If only they were allowed to speak publicly.

As for me I chose to be part of the Solution ~
